Winning isn't everything...
but it's way ahead of what ever is in second
place!
There's almost nothing more
gratifying than reincarnating a great classic
for a client. Unless the car's rebirth earns
UMW more international acclaim for its efforts
in the hotly contested arena of restoration
competition.
That, folks, is Gratifying
with a capital G!
Over the years, our Restoration
Team had built quite a reputation for going
the distance and then some on projects, whether
for a client or on one of the dealership's classics.
We have included here four of our best - all
extremely rare and winners at the most prestigious
levels.
Lamborghini Superleggera 350 GT
Awarded First Place in Class
1993 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
Concours Level restoration to the 1965 coupe
was total and included complete body panel fabrications,
new glass around, rebuilds of engine, transmission
and rear end, and electrical systems rewiring.
Processes also included 20 coats of hand rubbed
lacquer, total replateing of all chrome components,
new carpeting and glove-soft leather interior
and about 3000 hours of focused effort. Restoration
as good as it gets!

1966 Jaguar XKE Coupe
Awarded
Best Closed Coupe in Show and 1st Place in
Class / Sport 1961-72
1999 Amelia Island
Concours d'Elegance
Buoyed by the 98 victory, the crew enthusiastically
began work on this wonderful black XKE coupe.
No detail was spared painstaking attention.
From replacement of all rubber seals to multi-directional
blocking with wet sanding for a flawless 16
coat lacquer exterior and complete refurbishment
of all lower surfaces. Right down to the original
tool kit, this XKE coupe was ready for the closest
inspection!
1966 Superleggera 400 GT 2+2
Awarded 1st Place in Class/Sports
Cars 1961 - 72
1998 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance
In
1989, we followed up on our Pebble Beach triumph
at the East Coast's most prestigious Concours
d'Elegance at Amelia Island. Our client's 400
GT - the first 400 ever built - benefited from
a restoration as comprehensive as the Pebble
Beach 1965 350 GT. Considering the competition
posed by over 150 of the finest examples of
the great marques - Dusenberg, Cord, Pierce
Arrow, Buggatti, Delahaye, Ferrari and others,
we were honored to come back to Orlando with
yet another grand prize.
The Lamborghini P538 Bizzarini
Awarded
3rd in Class
1989 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
You like rare? How about the first of two Bizzarinis
ever built and the first with the prototype
Lamborghini V12! This dazzling P538 was destined
for Concours competition the day it rolled out
of the factory. Although in nice condition,
normal wear over the years stood between the
car and Concours judging. The UMW team brought
it up to that level with new hydraulics, electronics,
oil pump and carb repairs, as well as show-prep
interior and exterior. The car was appraised
in 1989 at $1.8 million.
New Projects
Restoration
projects are in varying stages of start-up and
completion throughout the year.
Two current projects - a very rare Lamborghini
P400 Countach and a Ferrari Spyder - are particularly
noteworthy, and we think you'll enjoy seeing
how the transformations evolve. So that you
might have a better understanding of the details
involved in refurbishing the cars.
1971 Ferrari Spyder GTS/4
Even minus its doors, Miami Vice fans well remember
this sleek roadster. Most know MV's was a Corvette
knock off, but our client's V12 Spyder is the
real thing! Beautifully proportioned and the
ultimate front-engine sport car of its era,
the 170 mph Spyder could whip anything in its
class. One of perhaps 50 rare Silver Spyders,
our client's roadster will be refurbished as
a Showcar - Driver Restoration. Mechanically
attended with new seals, electronic replacements,
fuel system adjustments and cosmetic/painting/rechroming
where necessary, this Spyder will knock eyes
out wherever shown and light up the streets
as well.
